                                         72-66

Box Score

Houghton, N.Y. The Highlanders captured their first AMC North divisional win over the Geneva Golden Tornadoes, 72-66.  With tonight’s win the Highlanders under Coach Brad Zarges have risen over the 8 win mark for the first time in a decade.  The last time the Highlanders were able to capture more than 8 wins in a season was in the 1995-1996 season when they were led by Coach Greg Barry.

The Highlanders fought hard playing all 40 minutes of tonight’s contest versus the Golden Tornadoes scoring 8 unanswered points in the first 2 minutes of play.  The Golden Tornadoes stormed back, forcing the Highlanders to raise their level of play.  The Highlanders outrebounded the Golden Tornadoes, 39-37 and dished out 16 assists.

The Highlanders shot well from inside the 3 point line for the game shooting 41.7%.  In the second half, Luke Mortenson (Sr. Greenville, NY) heated up behind the 3 point line knocking down 5 three’s keeping the Highlanders with a 12 point lead. The Highlanders closed out the Golden Tornados from the free throw line with Captain Corky McMullen (Sr. Castile, NY) nailing all 6 attempts in the final minute of play.

The Highlanders were lead by Luke Mortenson (Sr. Greenville, NY) who posted 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals.  Yannick Anzuluni (Fr. Ottawa, ON) registered his 3rd  double-double of the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds.  Mada Abdelhamid (Fr. Auckland, New Zealand) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds on the evening.  Allen Goodman (Sr. Citra, FL) posted 7 points and 7 rebounds as well.

“We played aggressively as a team for 40 straight minutes.  We will learn from the mistakes we made tonight and carry those lessons over to tomorrow’s matchup versus Seton Hill University” said Brad Zarges after the victory.

The Highlanders next game is tomorrow Saturday, February 10th versus Seton Hill University with the tip-off at 4:00PM.
