The designation as a scholar-athlete is open only to juniors and seniors
who have achieved and maintained a 3.5 or better grade point average.
From Houghton’s field hockey team, the following members were honored:
Amanda Brenon, Kathleen Griego, Elizabeth Mueller and Ashley Pink.
Highlander Field Hockey Head Coach Darlene Wells said: “These young
women have done an outstanding job at balancing the priorities and
demands of life. They have excelled physically, playing college field
hockey; academically, in the classroom at Houghton College; socially,
with their peers and teammates and spiritually, in dealing with the
everyday stress and their walk with God. Today we are commending them
for their achievements in academics and athletics.”
Brenon is a junior midfielder from Endwell, N.Y., where she attended
Maine-Endwell High School. She is majoring in Inclusive Childhood

final.
Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door

nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
