Houghton, N.Y.-  Sophomore Ben Kopp (Franklinville, NY/ Ten Broeck Academy) came up big for the Highlanders hitting two important three's in the second half to ignite the Highlanders, beating SUNY Fredonia 66-53.

"There was a stretch there... when it was just a one possession ball game," said Highlander Head Coach Brad Zarges. "Ben (Kopp) stepped up knocked down two great three's and put us on a 15-4 run to seal the game."

The Highlanders had three players in double figures tonight with Mada Abdelhamid (Auckland, New Zealand/ Avondale) registering his eighth double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Yannick Anzuluni (Ottawa, Canada/ Garneau) scored a game high 19 points and six rebounds and Ben Kopp scored 13 points. Freshmen John Mannarino (Solon, OH/ Walsh Jesuit) had a career high 9 assists for the game and added five points.

"We have a huge game this Friday against Point Park (University). It's critical to get that first conference win under our belt going into the last stretch of the regular season," stated Coach Zarges.

The Blue Devil's were led by Brad Cooper tonight with 19 points and three assist's.

The Highlanders will be on the road again for an American Mideast Conference (AMC) North Division match-up against Point Park University on Friday February 1, tip-off at 7:30 PM. The Highlanders improve to 7-11 for the season and remain 0-4 in AMC play.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
