(Ithaca, N.Y.)—
The Houghton College Track and Field team secured two more automatic qualifications to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ national indoor meet at the Deneault Invitational hosted by Cornell University over the weekend.

Highlanders Darby Emerson (Windsor, Colo./Windsor) and Kaitlin Fadden (Hyde Park, N.Y./FDR High School) qualified in the 1000m and in the 3000m. Emerson won the 1000m with a time of 3:03.32, qualifying for nationals in a second event after having met the mark for nationals in the 800m the previous week.

Fadden finished in sixth place in the 3000m, but her time of 10:23.08 was well within the NAIA qualifying mark. Fadden had earlier qualified in the 5000m.

The Houghton indoor track and field teams will compete next at the 2007 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Indoor Track and Field Championships at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn. on March 6-8.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
