Lady of Mercy’s Choma to Play for Houghton
(Houghton,
N.Y.)—Houghton College has signed Samantha Choma to a letter of
intent to play women’s soccer in the fall of 2008. Choma is a
senior at Our Lady of Mercy High in Rochester, N.Y., the school

“Sam has been an integral part of the Monarchs defense for three
years,” said Donna Trost, who coached Choma at Our Lady of
Mercy, “She has a great sense of positioning, is patient, and
determined. Sam has an exceptional moral code which makes her a
perfect leader. As one of the team captains, she exemplified
this quality and has been a pleasure to coach and teach.”
Mercy reached the semi-finals of Section V Class AA each of
Choma’s three seasons on Mercy’s varsity. They lost 1-0 to
eventual state champion Greece Arcadia in 2007.
Choma was a co-captain of that team, received the coach’s award
and was selected to the private/parochial Exceptional Senior
Game. She also earned New York State Scholar Athlete honors.

Hawks, Victor Farmington United and the Irondequoit travel team.
“I have been impressed with Sam’s composure and ball skills,”
said Highlanders Head Coach David Lewis, “She is fundamentally
sound and comes from school and club teams that know how to win.
I have also been impressed by her commitment to Christ and
desire to serve Him through her life. She’s an ideal fit for our
program.”
