Connecticut Recruit to Play Soccer

DeBisschop signs (Houghton, N.Y.)—Zachary DeBisschop, from Burlington, Conn., has signed a letter of intent to play soccer in the fall for the Houghton College men’s team.

DeBisschop is a midfielder who earned All-State honors twice in his high school career at The Master’s School and was captain of the team his senior year.

“I am excited to add Zach DeBisschop to our program,” said Matthew Webb, head coach of the Houghton men’s soccer team, “Zach will bring a strong physical presence to the midfield, and, with his high work rate, should be able to make the transition to the college game quickly.”

In addition to his soccer accomplishments, DeBisschop earned a #1 ranking in New England after running a 4:35 in the 1500M race at the United States Track and Field’s Junior Olympics.

“Zach is extremely driven,” said Webb, “He is committed to the things that are important to our program from both a spiritual and physical perspective. His discipline and passion both for his relationship with Christ and for developing as a player will add to that culture in our team.”

In addition to playing for his high school team and running track, DeBisschop played club soccer for the Litchfield Club team, the Bristol Wolves (D-1 Premier) and West Hartford (D-1 Premier).

DeBisschop is the son of Mark and Deborah DeBisschop of Burlington, Conn.

Houghton went 9-4-5 last year, reaching the semifinals of the American Mideast Conference (AMC) playoffs before falling to AMC and NAIA Region IX winners Rio Grande.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
