LaBoda Signs to Play Women’s Soccer

LaBoda sisters(Houghton, N.Y.)—Alyssa LaBoda has signed a letter of intent to play women’s soccer in the fall. The midfielder from Mexico High School in Mexico, N.Y., earned all-league honors twice during her four-year varsity career.

“Alyssa played well during our recruit weekend,” said David Lewis, head coach of the Highlanders, “Her technical skills are solid and she reads the game well. With continued work, I anticipate that she will develop into a quality collegiate player.”

LaBoda’s sister, Ashley, played midfield for Houghton the last four years; she is graduating in a few weeks. Now Alyssa will wear the same jersey number (8) as her sister did for the Highlanders. (The two are pictured above, with Alyssa on the left.)

In addition to playing for Mexico High School, LaBoda was on the Salt City club soccer team that won the Central New York Junior Soccer Association championship.

The daughter of Alan and Angela LaBoda, Alyssa intends to major in health and physical education at Houghton.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
