Lord Signs with Highlander Women’s Hoops

(Houghton, N.Y.)—Beth Lord, a center/forward for Houghton Academy, has signed a letter of intent to play women’s basketball at Houghton College. A two-time Allegany County All-Star, Lord will play for her father, H. “Skip” Lord, who coaches the women’s team at the college.

“Beth is a strong inside player who can play both the four and the five positions,” Coach Lord said, “She brings a great deal of game experience to the team. She understands the game, sees the floor and derives as much satisfaction from a good pass as she does from a basket.”

Lord had a three-year varsity career at Houghton Academy, where she averaged over nine points and almost 10 rebounds per game.

“Her strengths are rebounding and defense,” says her father, “She will help improve our depth inside and will be a welcome addition to the team and the school spiritually, socially, athletically and academically.”

Beth Lord intends to major in psychology and sociology at Houghton College. She is the daughter of H. “Skip” and Joan Lord from Houghton.

The Highlanders enjoyed a 15-12 overall season record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the American Mideast Conference tournament in 2007-08.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
