Christensen Sets Another School Mark in Last Meet

Christensen (Houghton, N.Y.)—Naomi Christensen set a Houghton College record in the 400M hurdles—the ninth individual event in which she holds the school record—in the team’s last regular-season track meet at Roberts Wesleyan College on Thursday. Christensen’s time of 1:06.89 broke a Highlander record that had stood for more than 12 years.

Christensen now holds school records at the 55M, 60M, 200M, 400M and 600M distances on indoor tracks and outdoors records in the 100M, 200M, 400M and the 400 hurdles. She also ran with five relay teams that set Houghton records. (She is pictured at left running in a relay earlier in the season.)

Also competing in her final regular-season meet as a Highlander, Shonnelle Trotman set personal records in the triple jump (31-1.25) and the long jump (15-7) at the meet.

Freshman David Jones finished out a strong first year by setting personal marks in each of the three events he competed in: the 100M (11.81), the 200M (23.89) and the 110M high hurdles (23.89).

The Highlanders are preparing for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ outdoor national championship meet, to be held in St. Louis on May 22-24.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
