Ortlip to Join Men’s Soccer Team

(Houghton, N.Y.)—Henry Ortlip, a graduate of the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) in Ohio, will join the Houghton College men’s soccer team in the fall. Ortlip—who sat out last year, but trained with the team—will play full-time in 2008.

“Henry is the last addition to our squad for next year,” says Matthew Webb, head coach of the Highlander’s men’s team, “He has come a long way in training and I expect will challenge immediately for time on

the field.”

Ortlip scored 17 goals and added 20 assists in three years at CVCA.  The team won the Ohio Division 3 state championship in 2004 and advanced to the Division 2 Final Four in 2005.

“Henry is deceptive in his movement with the ball,” Webb added, “and with continued attention to his defensive responsibilities he has great potential. I am excited to see him succeed at Houghton. Henry is a great addition to the program and I am excited about how he compliments our team both on and off the field.”

In addition to his play with CVCA, Ortlip served as captain of the Ambassadors F.C. and played for the Cleveland City Stars Reserve Team.

Ortlip is the son of Jon and Ruth Ortlip, who are both alumni of Houghton College, and live in Santa Ana, Cal.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
