Houghton Field Hockey Team Rolls, 7-0

(Houghton, N.Y.)—Houghton’s field hockey team scored just over two minutes into the game and rolled to a 7-0 victory over Wells College Saturday.

The goals came in pairs for the Highlanders: two for Amanda Brenon, two for Cala Galioto and two for Ashley Hoffman. (Emily VanEenwyk was the Highlander who scored one.) Just for good measure, Jenny Huyett had—you guessed it—two assists.

penalty stroke by Brenon—her second penalty stroke conversion of the year. Hoffman also picked up her second assist of the season.

The goals by Hoffman give her 13 for the year and a chance at breaking the Houghton College mark of 22 in a season, set by Kelly Mazzeo in 2003.

Houghton dominated the game throughout, outshooting the Express 45-0 and enjoying a 24-0 advantage in penalty corners.

The win improves Houghton’s record to 7-4. They play again Tuesday afternoon, on the road at Mercyhurst.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
