Wisehart to Join Highlanders Volleyball

(Houghton, N.Y.)— The Houghton College volleyball team has received a commitment from Megan Wisehart of Concord, North Carolina to join the program.

Wisehart, a setter, was a three-year letter winner at Jay M. Robinson high school. The four-time North Carolina Scholar-Athlete was named a team co-captain before the 2008 season, and had a strong senior campaign. She won team MVP honors, as well as earning a MECA all-conference selection and an appearance on the conference senior all-star team.

Wisehart recorded 207 assists and 113 digs as a senior and holds the school record for digs in one match with 35. Her high school team made the state playoffs every year that she was on varsity, and her Carolina Storm Volleyball Club reached the regional finals in the Gold Division in 2008.

“Megan has been an asset to our high school program and displayed courage, intensity, maturity, and determination on and off the court,” said Jay M. Robinson coach Callie Phillips. “These attributes will help her to thrive at the next level and be an equally important asset to Houghton College and its volleyball program. We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.”

Houghton coach Nancy Cole shared Phillip’s positive outlook. “We are very excited that Megan will become a Highlander this fall. Megan will bring depth to both our back row and our setting position,” Cole said. “She will be a much needed addition to our program as well as a great fit with our team and this college.”

Wisehart is the daughter of Molly Wisehart and intends to major in Biology.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
