Turner comes to Houghton from Athens Christian High School in Athens Georgia where he served as head varsity boy’s basketball coach since 2005. He recorded a 6-17 record during his stint reaching the G.H.S.A. Class A Region 8 Semi-finals.

Before coaching, he successfully completed five years of NCAA Div 1. Basketball at Liberty University from 2000-05 in Lynchburg, Virginia. Here he helped Liberty win the Big South Conference Championship in 2004 gaining an automatic bid into the NCAA Div. 1 Men’s National Championship, where they played number one ranked St. Joseph University in Buffalo, NY. Turner brings extensive experience competing against the best collegiate programs in the country, having played against schools in the ACC (including Duke, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Clemson and North Carolina State), Big East (Seton Hall), Big 10 (Iowa, Northwestern), SEC (Vanderbelt), Big 12 (Iowa State, Baylor), and the Pac 10 (Arizona).  While at Liberty he earned his Bachelors in Biblical Studies, Bachelors in Political Science, and his Master Degree in Counseling.

Turner also competed overseas professionally playing in New Zealand and winning a National Championship and being named MVP in the CBA in 2004.

 

Originally born in New Zealand, Turner represented New Zealand at various Junior National age group events competing internationally in the FIBA Oceania Group before coming to the states in Louisville, KY. In Kentucky his senior year he attended Highview Baptist School leading them to the Kentucky Class A State Finals, for the first time in school history.  He was selected 1st Team All-State Class A and was third in voting for MVP. Turner was also selected as one of 15 players chosen to play in the Kentucky vs. Indiana Boys State High School Game... recognized as one of the Top 10 Seniors in Kentucky.... and selected as a McDonalds High School All-American.
 

Turner will assist Coach Zarges with the coaching and administration of the men’s basketball program, overseeing and managing the team's strength and conditioning development, implementing the team's mentoring program, recruitment of domestic and international players, scouting, and assisting in the development of post players in preparation for the demands of a rigorous and competitive game environment.

He and his wife Michelle have one daughter, Elle Sue.
