NAIA National Tournament appearances in his 18 years at
the helm. Included in those years was three-straight Northeast Atlantic
Conference crowns and national tournament appearances in 1999,
2000, and 2001.
He was named NAC Coach of the Year after an 18-7 finish in 1999-2000.
His 1998-99 squad finished 24-6, establishing a program record for
wins in a season. During the season, Coach Lord
registered the 200th win of his women's college basketball coaching
career.
Following the 1997-98 campaign, in which his team finished 20-8,
Coach Lord was named KECC Coach of the Year and NAIA Northeast Region
Coach of the Year.
In 1994-95, Coach Lord led his Lady Highlanders to a 21-6 record and
the program’s first-ever trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
Coach Lord has mentored student-athletes who have been successful
both on and off the court. His 1996-97 and 1999-2000 teams were
recognized by the WBCA for placing 24th among NAIA institutions with an
overall GPA of 3.14.
Coach Lord’s coaching background includes high school football and
girls’ basketball. His girls’ teams at Franklinville Central had a
110-15 record, including 80 consecutive league victories.
A Houghton graduate, Coach Lord also serves as the college's athletic
director, and he recently was elected to serve as chair of NAIA Region
IX.
He has been named NAIA Region IX Athletics Director of the Year,
twice been named Northeast Region Male Administrator of the Year, and is
a three-time conference administrator of the year.
Competition is more than just winning to Coach Skip
Lord. Though his teams have been successful, he is
committed to an athletic program that uses sports as a
form of ministry. His teams have traveled to play in the
Czech Republic the past eight years and he has led
boys' (2001) and girls' (2002) high school teams to play
in Russia.
In 2002 Lord was named director of sports ministry
for Wesleyan World Missions, coordinating overseas
short-term sports missions trips.
