Lord Signs with Women’s Hoops
(5/7/2008) (Houghton, N.Y.)—Beth Lord, a center/forward for Houghton Academy, has signed a letter of intent to play women’s basketball at Houghton College. A two-time Allegany County All-Star, Lord will play for her father, H. “Skip” Lord, who coaches the women’s team at the college. (4/11/2008) (Houghton, N.Y.)—Kaylyn York—a guard for Section VI, Class C champion Frewsburg Central School—has signed a letter of intent to play women’s basketball at Houghton College next year.

Marhefka to Join Highlanders’ Women’s Hoops
(4/10/2008) (Houghton, N.Y.)—Houghton College has signed Alicia Marhefka, a 5-11 forward from Apalachin, N.Y., to play women’s basketball next year. Marhefka averaged 15.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game last year at Owego Free Academy. She is second on the school’s all-time list for rebounds, with 678.

Lord Speaks at Final Four
(4/8/2008) (Houghton, N.Y.)—H. “Skip” Lord, athletics director at Houghton College, made a presentation on Monday at the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association meeting held in conjunction with the NCAA Women’s Final Four in Tampa Bay, Fla. Lord’s presentation, entitled “blowing the Whistle on Character Education,” is part of a series that examines the role of officiating in sports and its impact on fan behavior, crowd control, sportsmanship and the future of sport in society.
