Major: Pre-Med & Art
While on a mission trip to Mexico her junior year in high school, Marcia Mason developed a passion for medical missions. Her Houghton College experience has become an academic, spiritual, and social springboard for this calling. As an art and pre-med double major, Marcia has developed awe and understanding of the beauty, intricacy, and functionality of the human body, academically preparing her for service within the medical field. Despite the academic rigor of her studies, Marcia discovered at Houghton a community in which, she states, “people are comfortable in who they are and are grounded in their faith in God.” While the education she is receiving is preparing her for service after leaving Houghton, she treasures its current role in her life: “Houghton is where I feel at home.”
During her spare time you can find Marcia playing a competitive game of racquetball, having game nights with friends, and stargazing at the Field of Dreams.
Giving back to the community, Marcia spends every Monday evening playing games and building relationships with middle school kids as part of the Youth for Christ outreach.
Two summers ago, Marcia spent a month in Cochabamba, Bolivia shadowing doctors and caring for orphans.
