Houghton University welcomes a new exhibit to the Ortlip Gallery for the November-December season. Continua brings together sculpture work by Sarah Blood and Karen Donnellan. Continua explores the relationship between light and darkness, pointing to an infinite cycle of energy in motion. This exhibit provides space for visitors of all ages to experience sculpture that connects to the senses.

Blood and Donnellan are each accomplished interdisciplinary artists who are currently teaching in the Sculpture and Dimensional Studies division of the School of Art & Design at Alfred University. Donnellan has exhibited work in the US, Ireland, Venice, and the United Kingdom. Blood has exhibited work in the US, Europe, China, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates.

The gallery statement offers a glimpse at the themes the artists explore in the exhibit: “Highlighting the relational quality of sculpture through material metaphor, this exhibit provides space for viewers to experience an immersive environment that connects to the senses. The vibration of sound and presence of light in darkness, point to an infinite cycle of energy.”

Continua will be on display in the Ortlip Gallery until December 13th. Gallery hours are 1–6 PM on Mondays–Saturdays, except over the college’s Thanksgiving Break (Nov. 27–Dec. 1), when the gallery will be closed. The Ortlip Gallery is located in the Center for Fine Arts at Houghton University.
