Why Physics at Houghton?

Students studying physics and engineering at Houghton learn about the most basic principles at work in the physical universe and how to glorify God by applying these principles to meet people’s needs.

Student Doing Physics

Learn by Doing

We believe that physics and engineering should be more than an academic exercise and that the best way to learn is by doing! Our courses are designed to give students practical hands-on experience right from the start. This begins with the first-year Introduction to Engineering course or Physics Project Laboratory, and it extends all the way through to the completion of a final design and/or research project.

Intentional Community

Our physics and engineering programs are intentionally relational. They are designed to allow professors and students to spend time together – something rare in today’s world of large impersonal universities. Students have their own work space, and it’s very common for us to spend our afternoons working together at the chalkboards, discussing research problems and encouraging one another.
