Brooks-Nebyu Duo to Perform in Artist Series

On Friday, February 16, Houghton University will welcome Brooks-Nebyu Duo to the stage as part of the 2017-2018 Artist Series. The 7:30 p.m. performance is open to the public, and tickets are required.

The duo is comprised of pianist Bethany Brooks and violinist Samuel Nebyu. Brooks is currently a freelance pianist and piano teacher in Philadelphia, as well as the principal piano player for the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra. She is also a Csehy Summer School of Music faculty member and staff pianist for the Crescendo Summer Institute in eastern Hungary. Her solo recording project, Quarry Street Hymnal, was released in 2012.

Brooks holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Houghton, and returned to present at the college in 2015 and 2016. She also holds a Master of Music degree in collaborative piano and chamber music from Temple University, as well as a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (London, England).

Nebyu is a violinist studying at Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University. He has performed worldwide at international music festivals or as a solo or collaborative artist. Nebyu, who began playing violin at the tender age of six, is the recipient of the Clifton Emerging Artist Award and a prize winner of the Mozart Salzburg Festival competition. He recently released a CD titled Violin Gems from Black Composers.
