New Student Orientation and Information

We are excited to welcome you to campus, albeit in a new reality! We acknowledge the trying times we find ourselves in and also seek to make the most of our present circumstances.

Due to the ever-changing guidelines surrounding COVID-19 in New York State orientation and move-in details will be adjusted accordingly. Please regularly monitor your email, this page, and the Houghton College Coronavirus page for more updates.

Move-In Day

The original plan for move-in day on August 28th has changed. Due to COVID-19, all students are strongly encouraged and many students will be required to move into their residence hall from August 21-23.

Who must arrive early?

Students arriving from international locations and states that are currently listed as a travel advisory state by New York must arrive within the August 21-23 time-frame. A list of these states can be found here: https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-cuomo-governor-murphy-and-governor-lamont-announce-joint-incoming-travel-advisory-all

Note: even if you are not in a travel advisory locationn, please make every effort to arrive within the August 21-23 time-frame.

Some student athletes and others will be arriving before this date. Please wait for further communication from your campus contact about these times and only sign up for a slot if you are currently planning to arrive at some point over the August 21-23 weekend.

How do I sign up?

Sign-ups will close on July 31, 2020 and move-in slots sign-ups have been sent to your email address. If you have not received the email, please contact housing@houghton.edu.

  • Students need to sign-up for a 90 minute move-in slot.
  • Students will be able to bring up to two guests with them on move-in day.
  • Students and their guests will be expected to wear a mask during their move-in slot.
  • To decrease the density of the on-campus population at any one time, each choice is limited to the first 35 people to register for that slot.

If necessary, your move-in slot may need to be adjusted if too many students moving into one residence hall have signed up for a particular time. We hope to have any changes to this information to you by July 31, 2020.

Reminders will go out to students about their chosen time later in July.

Will it cost more to arrive early?

There is no added cost to arrive early.
