Houghton Alumnus Receives 2021 Solti Foundation Assistance Award

Houghton Music Composition alumnus, Nathaniel Efthimiou ’16, now holds positions as the founding Music Director of Orchestra Contempo, Cover Conductor of Rhode Island Philharmonic, Assistant Conductor of Boston Civic Symphony, and as an Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music.

Since graduating from Houghton with a major in Music Composition and completing his Master of Arts from the Greatbatch School of Music, he completed doctoral studies in orchestral conducting at Boston University. Efthimiou was awarded a 2021 Solti Foundation Career Assistance Award for conducting. He was given this award for the successes that he has had in his career. Some of these accomplishments include his work in founding Music Director of Orchestra Contempo, his position as an Assistant Conductor, his work with the Boston Civic Symphony, his position as the Assistant Director of Music at Boston’s historic Park Street Church and acting his work as the Assistant Conductor, Rhode Island Philharmonic. The Solti Foundation U.S. has a mission of assisting young talented American musicians at the start of their careers. Efthimiou is passionate about new music and is always growing deeper into his craft.
