It’s nice to meet you!
Greetings! My name is Anna, and I’m a fourth-year student at Houghton College studying writing. I split my life between climbing mountains, waiting for my tea water to boil and playing as many pianos in as many places as possible (the Milan airport was my most recent conquest). I love thrift shopping, the city of London and mashed potatoes.
My Journey to Houghton College
I discovered Houghton College because I grew up about ten feet away from it, but I chose to stay because, sometimes, the best things in my life are right in front of my face. This was not an instant decision. After spending far too much time applying to other places, retaking the SAT (gross), and making pros and cons lists, I realized that Houghton had everything on my college wish-list: academic excellence, Steinways, scholarships and an emphasis on how God can fit into learning. I’ve been terrorizing the library ever since.
My experience at Houghton
During my time at Houghton, I’ve gotten to do some pretty cool things. These include spending two semesters in London, England with Houghton’s Honors Program; becoming the Opinions Editor for the school newspaper (The Houghton Star); and traveling to Washington, DC, to lobby for better environmental practices. I also enjoy the everyday aspects of Houghton life. I’m an avid fan of hanging out in the campus coffee shop (Java 101), taking long walks in the Houghton Forest and having friends over to do homework. When I’m not curled up in my library carrel or trying to meet deadlines, you can usually find me perfecting my lentil soup recipe or scribbling in my journal.
