Congressman Tom Reed on Campus to Talk About Bipartisan Climate Solutions

March 12, 2020

On Thursday, March 19, 2020, Houghton University will host a dialogue with U.S. Congressman Tom Reed on bipartisan solutions to the climate crisis. The event will be held in Schaller Hall, Room 214 in the Paine Center for Science from 5 to 6 PM and is free and open to the public. There will be time for participant questions in a town-hall style format, and cookies and hot beverages will be provided.

“Climate change represents one of the most urgent and complex political issues of our time with politicians from both sides of the aisle offering a wide variety of solutions,” said Houghton University Sustainability Director Brian Webb. “Congressman Reed has distinguished himself among his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives by demonstrating genuine bipartisan leadership on climate change. We’re delighted to have him here on campus to discuss this urgent issue.”

The event is being co-sponsored by the Center for Sustainability and the American Enterprise Institute club on campus. “We are excited to hear Congressmen Reed speak at Houghton University,” said current Houghton senior Ryan Burrichter, Chair of the AEI Executive Council. “He is making great strides in uniting the parties and fighting tough issues through listening instead of responding, understanding instead of ignoring and accepting different ideas as possibilities for human flourishing. His work on the Problem Solvers Caucus is a strong example of his commitment to his constituents and his drive to solve issues that we all face, including climate change.”

For those unable to attend, the event will be live-streamed on Houghton University’s YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/dsKTX_pXYb0.
