Houghton Biology Professor Publishes Book on Faith and Science

February 8, 2022

Biology professor, Dr. Ransom Poythress, outlines the importance of incorporating faith with science in his new book, Has Science Made God Unnecessary?. The book, to be published in March, examines the relationship between Christianity and science, and the question of whether searching for answers excludes belief in God. Poythress affirms that Christian belief provides the foundation for the sciences, and that science would not be possible without God’s oversight and care.

As both a biologist and a biblical scholar, Poythress explores the philosophy of science, and how we can uphold the sovereignty of God while pursuing a greater understanding of the sciences. Poythress holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California Institute of Technology, a Master of Arts from Westminster Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. from Boston University.
