Being a Houghton Host gives you the opportunity to interact with prospective students for a prolonged period of time, as you host them overnight in your residence hall room. Houghton Hosts are expected to spend quality time with their visitors, review their schedule, have a meal with them, help them to meet other Houghton students, and incorporate them in fun activities, so they can see what life will be like as a Houghton student.
Enjoy walking and talking at the same time? Admission tour guides provide visiting students and families not just a view of what the campus looks like but also what it is like to be a current student at Houghton.
Assist with counselor responsibilities such as targeted calling, assisting students applying for admission, helping with events and more. Also spend several hours a week helping plan student on-campus visits and even leading tours! If you’re considering pursuing being an admission counselor after graduation, this would be a great first step.
Call prospective students to inform them of visit opportunities, talk about their college search, and encourage applications. Share about your own Houghton experience and answer questions these students have about Houghton in particular or the college search in general. Additionally, interact with and welcome visiting families while working a few hours each week at our reception desk.
When a student wants to visit, you’re the go-to team. Visit Office Interns will be initial contacts with prospective students and their families through the visiting registration process, and will work with faculty and staff to create positive visit experiences for prospective students and their families.
For some visitors or callers, you may be the first face or voice of Houghton that they interact with. Reception interns answer the admission phone line, greet campus visitors, assist with incoming and outgoing mail and are all-around helpful to the admission process.
A good driver and a good talker? The admission office arranges for drivers to pick up visiting prospective students from nearby airports, train stations, and bus despots. Not only is this a great opportunity to bring a student to campus, it’s also a chance to engage with them during the drive to/from the airport.
