Professor Rice began teaching at Houghton College in 2017 and is the present chair for the Department of Business and Economics. She came to Houghton College with more than 25-years experience in organizational development, human resource management, and strategic leadership within a variety of non-profit and for-profit contexts, including manufacturing, healthcare, Christian ministry, academia, media, retail, and more.
Professor Rice’s professional experience has included: facilitating strategic planning, providing HR leadership during organizational transitions, mergers and acquisitions, designing employee compensation and benefit plans, writing organizational policy, leading multi-site HR departmental services, managing complex employee relation matters, overseeing multi-million dollar budgets, and leading third-party vendor negotiations and contractual matters. Additionally, she has extensive experience in legal and ethical employment compliance.
Immediately prior to joining Houghton College, Professor Rice co-developed and led Missional Movement International, a consulting, coaching, and training ministry focused on assisting Christian leaders with transformative strategies for faithful and intentional living and leading. During her time with Missional Movement Int’l she developed the Missional LIFE Model ™, an organizational, vocational, and personal development tool.
Professor Rice is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and is certified by the Center for Credentialing & Education in North Carolina for life and executive leadership coaching. She also is a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Professional.
Professor Rice is married to James Rice and is grateful to be ‘Mom’ to her four grown sons and daughter-in-laws, and ‘Grandma’ to her grandchildren.
