SUMMARY:Artist Series: Eastman Trombone Choir
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 1941 by Emory Remington\, the Eastman Trombone Choir is highly regarded around the world as one of the best ensembles of its kind. Currently\, Professors Mark Kellogg and Larry Zalkind serve as co-directors. Over the years\, the choir has appeared at many Eastern Trombone Workshops\, New York Brass Conferences\, the Western Mass Trombone Workshop\, Montreal Low Brass Workshop\, NAfME\, and NYSSMA conventions. The Choir has performed annually since 1989 at the Frühling Posaunen Festival in collaboration with the Trombone Studios at Ithaca College and Penn State University. Other local concerts and performances have been with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra\, Rochester Oratorio Society\, Hochstein School of Music\, and churches throughout the Rochester area. For many years the choir was a feature of the Rochester Bach Festival. The Choir has also recorded for Mark Records\, Stolat Records\, and for Williams Music. DESCRIPTION:Canadian-American pianist\, Benjamin Harding\, began his study of piano at the age of five\, competing in a variety of festivals and competitions from an early age. Benjamin completed the performance requirements for the Associateship Degree of the Royal Conservatory of Music while in high school and has appeared on CBC Radio in his home province of New Brunswick. He has performed throughout the United States\, Canada\, Europe and Hong Kong. An active chamber musician\, Benjamin has recently collaborated with cellists Michael Katz and Kangho Lee\, violinists Anthea Kreston\, Benjamin Shute\, David Kim\, Christopher Wu and violist Clark Potter. He has performed in many Italian cities – Florence\, Bologna\, Lucca\, La Spezia\, Parma\, Torino – as well as in Poland\, France\, and in Germany\, where he gave a solo recital for the 2011 Liszt bicentenary celebrations in Bayreuth. Dr. Menchetti has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Italy and the US\, and he regularly concertizes throughout the United States\, both as a soloist and a chamber musician.  For Sheva Collection he recorded Libro di Canti Italiano\, a set of solo piano pieces by English composer Peter Seabourne\, and Novecento Italiano\, featuring music for violin and piano by Italian composers written between the two world wars. He also recorded John Adams’ Grand Pianola Music with the CCM Wind Symphony for Klavier Records. Upcoming releases include Crossroads (works for tuba and piano by living composers)\, All Are Welcome (new works for bassoon\, oboe\, and piano)\, and an album featuring music for bassoon and piano by Native American composers.     Prior to joining Washington State University\, Dr. Menchetti has taught piano in many diverse settings\, from Italian junior high schools to American colleges. Winner of the College-Conservatory of Music Excellence in Teaching Award for the best doctoral teaching assistant\, after completing his doctorate he returned to CCM as a visiting instructor of piano and piano pedagogy.  As an active member of Music Teachers National Association and College of Music Society\, he is frequently invited to present at regional\, national\, and international conferences\, offering a broad range of subjects such as teaching strategies\, pedagogical piano literature\, and preparing students to enter the professional world. A sought-after adjudicator and clinician\, he is regularly requested for masterclasses at universities and in private studios.  Dr. Menchetti is also the coordinator of the Piano Pedagogy Laboratory School at WSU\, where his college students gain teaching experience and through directed mentoring are trained to become the next generation of piano teachers.     Dr. Menchetti received his Bachelor of Music from Boccherini Conservatory in Lucca\, and his Master of Music and Music Education from Puccini Conservatory in La Spezia. After moving to the United States\, he received his Master of Arts from Houghton College\, and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from College-Conservatory Music\, University of Cincinnati.
