Why study Neuroscience at Houghton?

Connections Across Fields

This flexible program gives you the unique opportunity to pursue both psychology and biology in the way that works best for you. Explore the important connections between these areas of study in an experiential learning setting.

Collaborative Research

All Neuroscience students must complete at least one semester of collaborative research. Work one-on-one with a professor to design, carry out, and analyze your research. Then, present your findings at the end of the semester. Explore a connection between biology and psychology or focus on only one. Students can also take on a Science Honors project and or a paid summer research position.

Hands-on Experience

Houghton's lab courses allow you to grow in your independence as a researcher. You will take part in brain and spinal cord dissections. In higher-level classes, you will also design, develop, and conduct your own experiments. This research can lead to publications in peer-reviewed journals or presentations at conferences.

Data collection may include tests like EEG, EMG, EKG, EOG, and observing reflexes and Action potential measurements.

Christian Worldview Focus

Learn about neuroscience with a Christian focus. Faculty infuse their faith into their studies and teaching. You can expect that professors will pray for you and care for your spiritual life. They will help you grow by having intentional Biblical discussions about issues in neuroscience. Is the mind more than a complicated series of neurons? How do our Christian beliefs affect how we view and treat neurological disorders and behaviors?
