SUMMARY:Faculty Recital: Jason Decker\, tuba: Music for Growing Up
DESCRIPTION:Jason Decker’s Faculty Tuba Recital: “Music for Growing Up” is on Monday\, October 13 at 6:30 PM in the Recital Hall.    “Music for Growing up” is retrospective of joys\, dealing with loss\, the angst of growing up\, and the grandeur of nature\, told by the misunderstood instrument\, the tuba.  Music by Alec Wilder for tuba and piano (with Laurie Smith\, piano) will tell the adventures of an elephant with big dreams.  “Blue Grace” for tuba alone contemplates the challenges of loss.  A piece for the unlikely duo of flute and tuba by Ben Miles (with Rachel Decker\, flute) depicts video game music. The second part of the program will feature the tuba in the context of the small ensemble.  The Letchworth Valley Brass Quintet will perform the playful and fun standard “Scherzo” by John Cheetham.  The program will conclude with Cait Nishimura’s “Valley Views\,” which depicts the landscapes of the remote area of Southern Oregon.  Children are welcome and encouraged to attend! — Event Details: https://hub.houghton.edu/rsvp?id=383355

SUMMARY:Faculty Recital: Judy Congdon\, Organ
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, October 8 at 8:00 p.m. Professor of Organ Dr. Judy Congdon will present a recital in Wesley Chapel on the Houghton University campus. The program features work by J.S. Bach\, César Franck\, 19th-early 20th century American composers John Knowles Paine and Clarence Dickenson\, and 20th-21st century Houghton composers William T. Allen and Gloria Huizenga. The Holtkamp organ in Wesley Chapel\, installed in 1962 under the leadership of college organist Dr. Charles Finney and college president Dr. Stephen Paine\, has inspired generations of organ students\, visiting concert organists\, worshipers\, and listeners. This program will invite us to thankfully remember the “great cloud of witnesses” connected with the Holtkamp organ in Houghton’s history. — Event Details: https://hub.houghton.edu/rsvp?id=383357
