3+1 Nursing Program

Have you been thinking about a career as a nurse? Have you been considering options to complete a nursing degree (BSN) while being a student at Houghton University?

You can now earn a bachelor’s degree from Houghton PLUS a BSN from Indiana Wesleyan University!

The IWU accelerated nursing program offers you the opportunity to become a registered nurse in just 14 months after completion of your 3-year Houghton bachelor’s degree. The course of study requires 63 credit hours of nursing coursework and leads to a BSN. This IWU program is held on IWU’s Marion, Indiana campus.

5 seats are guaranteed for Houghton students who have met the admission requirements per program, with terms starting in Spring or Summer.

What does this dual degree program entail?

While earning a bachelor’s degree at Houghton University, you will take courses to fulfill the prerequisites of IWU’s Transition to Nursing accelerated BSN program. These courses include:

  • Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II (BIOL
    217 & 218),
  • Microbiology (BIOL 242, has pre-requisite
    of BIOL 152),
  • Chemistry (CHEM 151 or 113), and
  • Math (MATH 181).

Additional Requirements Include:

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • GPA of 2.0 or higher in all science courses
  • Scores of 65% or higher on TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) in each category

Completion of pre-requisite coursework, online application, submissions of official transcripts, TEAS scores, recommendation from the Prehealth Professions director, and personal interview at IWU are required for consideration of your application for admission to the IWU program.
