SUMMARY:Honor Band Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Houghton University Honor Band will welcome area high school students Grades 10 – 12 to campus for a two-day event that will include side-by-side rehearsals with current Houghton students\, masterclasses\, and sectionals. Students in attendance will experience college life as part of our Houghton Wind Ensemble\, including meals in the cafeteria and an optional overnight stay. The event will culminate in a combined concert on Saturday afternoon. The final performance is free and open to the public. During the service\, we will remember the sacrifice and price Christ paid on the cross as we partake in Communion together. SUMMARY:Faculty Recital: Judy Congdon\, Organ
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, October 8 at 8:00 p.m. Professor of Organ Dr. Judy Congdon will present a recital in Wesley Chapel on the Houghton University campus. The program features work by J.S. Bach\, César Franck\, 19th-early 20th century American composers John Knowles Paine and Clarence Dickenson\, and 20th-21st century Houghton composers William T. Allen and Gloria Huizenga.   The Holtkamp organ in Wesley Chapel\, installed in 1962 under the leadership of college organist Dr. Charles Finney and college president Dr. Stephen Paine\, has inspired generations of organ students\, visiting concert organists\, worshipers\, and listeners.
