Graduate Students Now Eligible for Christian Service Scholarship

February 12, 2026

Houghton Universityย is pleased to announce expanded eligibility for theย Lee Scholarshipย program, which isย dedicated toย equipping those called toย various forms ofย Christian service. Establishedย by the lateย George and Grace Lee, the fundย provides financial support forย studentsย pursuing undergraduate andย graduateย degrees as they prepare for serviceย in pastoral ministry, missions, music ministry, Christian education,ย non-profit management,ย and other service roles within churches and Christian organizations.

With this expansion, graduate students enrolled in programs such as theย Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)ย andย theย Master of Business Administration (MBA)ย are now eligible for support through the Lee Scholarship. These programs prepare graduates to serve faithfully and effectively as educators, organizational leaders, and administrators in faith-based schools, churches, and nonprofit ministries.

โ€œThe George and Grace Lee Christian Scholarship Fundย continuesย its long history of supporting students as they answer their call to Christian service,โ€ said Wayne D.ย Lewis, Jr., president of Houghton University.ย By combining financial support with service-based forgiveness, the fund empowers future leadersโ€”including educators and nonprofit and organizational leadersโ€”to enter ministry-focused careers without the burden of significant educational debt.โ€

The scholarship is awarded in the form ofย aย forgivable loan, providing students with financialย assistanceย of up toย half-tuitionย for coursesย requiredย to complete their degree program.ย Upon completion of the degree, theย loan is forgiven at a rate ofย 50% for each yearย of qualifying full-time Christian service.ย Two years of qualifying serviceย result inย full loan forgiveness.

“Receiving the Lee Grant gave me the financial freedom to fully pursue Godโ€™s calling. Today, as a youth pastor in a small Pennsylvania church, Iโ€™m able to invest in students from many backgrounds because Iโ€™m not weighed down by student debt. My degree in Christian Ministry prepared me to share biblical truth and the love of Jesus with them every day. Iโ€™m deeply grateful for the generosity of George and Grace Lee and the lasting impact their support continues to have on my life and ministry.โ€ Anna Schall ’24
