Music Performance Major (BMus)

Enhance Your Artistic Creativity Through The Act of Performance

Whatever your musical instrument, Houghton’s Bachelor of Music in Performance will bring out the best in your passion, while providing you the confidence to share your gifts with the world. Houghton understands the study of music doesn’t fall within one genre, so explore the flexibility of choosing from four curriculum tracks: instrumental (brass, guitar, percussion, strings, or woodwinds), organ, piano, or voice.

A Reputable Name in Music.

From its dedicated faculty and top-notch facilities, Houghton has been one of the first accredited members of NASM (National Association of Schools of Music), the principal U.S. accreditor for music in higher education. You will have the opportunity to explore your passions by studying and performing with instructors who have acquired proficiency in their musical discipline while enhancing your own talents through experiencing international tours with one of our acclaimed ensembles—orchestra, band, choir, jazz, and chamber.

What will I learn?

Through Houghton’s B.A. in Music for Performance, you will obtain the proficiency within your instrumental passion through:

  • Developing the technical ability in performance through an exploration of sound and rhythm.
  • Familiarizing yourself in the art of teamwork through ensemble and rehearsal; music accompaniment is free to students
  • Improving your vocal abilities through breathing and production techniques.
  • Experimenting with methods of creating and distributing sounds.
  • Researching a future professional application in musical performance.
  • Enhancing solo performance strategies to build stage confidence.
