Houghton University Professor of Ecology, Eli Knapp, was the 1st place winner of the “Feels Like Home” Creative Writing Competition. The competition encouraged writers in Hume to describe why Hume feels like home to them using stories or poetry. Dr. Knapp’s piece, titled “The Renown of My Town” explains the quirky, but unique qualities of the town by mentioning some of Hume’s history, notable locations, and how Dr. Knapp relates to the town. 

For years, Knapp has demonstrated his  gift for the written word in numerous books and publications over the years, including The Delightful Horror of Family Birding and Dead Serious. He is often praised for his storytelling ability and passion for the subjects of his writing, like his hometown of Hume.
