Financial Aid for Internationals
Applying for Financial Aid
International students must complete the financial affidavit as part of the pre-application process. The financial affidavit indicates where your financial support will come from to fund your studies at Houghton. Your support may come from your own personal funds or those of a family member or sponsor. Students who have taken the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) may be considered for institutional aid. Since Houghton has limited funds to offer international students, we expect you to cover all yearly expenses.
Grants and Scholarships
The following is a partial list of financial aid programs available to TCKs and International students.
Scholarships - These awards are based on factors such as a student's academic record and community involvement. International students may be awarded a scholarship based on factors like TOEFL score and are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores. However, if SAT or ACT scores are submitted, these may be helpful in scholarship consideration.
Houghton College Grants - These grants provide financial assistance to students with demonstrated financial need or other positive personal qualities.
Performance Grants - Performance grants are awarded to students for displaying exceptional talent in fine arts.
On-campus Work Opportunities - There are many jobs available on campus, within specific departments. A social security card is required to obtain work on campus and Houghton will help international students obtain their card. A student typically works between 8-10 hours per week.
