Houghton President Leads Prayer for Christian Colleges at National Gathering in Washington D.C.

January 31, 2024

Houghton University President, Wayne D. Lewis, Jr., participated in the National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance in Washington D.C. today, Wednesday, January 31. The event aimed to bring together Christian and government leaders to seek spiritual renewal and unity.

During the gathering, President Lewis had the honor of leading a heartfelt prayer focused on Christian colleges in the United States. Recognizing the importance of these institutions in shaping the lives of countless students, Lewis emphasized the importance of Christian colleges’ grounding in the Word of God and reliance on the Holy Spirit to provide a transformative, Christ-centered education for students. He led a communal repentance for the ways in which Christian higher education has not consistently fulfilled its calling.

The NGPR, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering spiritual awakening and revival, provided this time for leaders like President Lewis to come together and seek God’s intervention in the challenges faced by the nation.

“It was an honor to join fellow Christians in prayer and repentance for our nation and specifically for Christian colleges,” said Lewis. “As we navigate the challenges of today, may we never forget the soul-saving, life-changing power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and center all that we say and do on the truth of the Gospel.”
