In the midst of the most unusual start to any fall semester in living memory, Houghton College welcomed eight new faculty members to the academic community.
Elianna (Chroniger ’18) McHenry comes to Houghton from a brief time in public accounting. Professor McHenry will be teaching accounting.
Dr. Francesca Silano is a scholar of late-Imperial and Soviet Russian History joining the History and Political Science Department.
Sport Recreation & Wellness
Assistant Professor of Sport, Recreation, and Wellness, Kaiden Bowers ’13, is also the Assistant Director of EPIC Adventures. Prior to this position, Kaiden was a senior enrollment advisor in our Admission office.
English & Writing
Dr. Jonathan Gates ’85 returns to his alma mater as a faculty member in the English and Writing Department, after serving on the English faculty at Nyack College for 26 years. In addition, Dr. Gates is spending part of his time in the Office of Vocation and Calling as a career specialist.
Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, Dr. Jie Zhou, joins the faculty most recently from her post doctoral work at Texas A&M University.
Dr. Ki Shin also joins the Physics Department as assistant professor of electrical engineering. Dr. Shin comes to Houghton from On Semiconductor, where he served as a Principal RF Design Engineer. (Not Pictured)
Maya McElfish ’12 returns to the Biology Department with extensive experience in outdoor science education, teaching on topics related to marine biology and biogeography of the Channel Islands, forest ecology, and conservation. Prior to this position, Professor McElfish worked with the Catalina Island Marine Institute off the coast of Southern California.
