Houghton Professor Performs Benefit Concert for Ukraine

May 5, 2022

Dr. Bill John Newbrough recently performed a sacred and classical solo piano benefit concert for Ukrainian refugees, raising around $7000.  The concert was held at Southeast Bible Baptist Church in Rochester, New York.  Two days later, a missionary pastor, who just traveled to Ukraine, traveled back and delivered the funds and other materials directly to Ukrainian refugees outside of Kyiv.

“As my family and I have Slavic roots and connections (both Ukrainian and Russian), we have been so moved and troubled by what is going on”, said Newbrough. He was inspired when he heard about a missionary pastor from the church who went to Ukraine to directly help the people there.  Newbrough has performed several other charity and benefit concerts for causes over the years, and saw this as an opportunity to put his talents to use to help those in need.

The Lord placed on my heart the idea to perform this concert. When I see a need, I do not have much monetarily I can personally give, but by God’s grace, I can always raise considerably more by performing a piano concert. -Dr. William John Newbrough, Professor of Piano and Director of Piano Studies
