Communication at Houghton

Communication Department

Our postmodern, digital, media-saturated age demands that we view the interactions among language, technology and images in new ways. Whether one seeks a career in broadcasting, journalism, public relations, advertising, government service, community development, law, business, teaching or the ministry, the ability to create and present clear and concise messages has never been more important.

Led by accessible faculty members with years of professional experience, communication at Houghton is an interdisciplinary program that helps students become competent communicators. This involves the abilities to analyze messages in both personal and public contexts, recognize and choose from among the various communication strategies available, and use language and images to create messages that are sensitive to the audience and that help to solve real-world problems.
