A Confident Path to Graduation

You must complete at least 124 credit hours (128 for B.Mus. degree) in transfer credits and coursework at Houghton to graduate. A minimum of 30 credit hours and at least 50% of your major must be taken at Houghton.

  • If you have completed coursework at another accredited college or university, most if not all courses will apply to your degree at Houghton as long as you earned a grade of C- or better.
  • Houghton will accept up to 67 credit hours from two-year colleges in which a grade of C- or higher has been earned.
  • In the case of a Bible college, accreditation by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) is necessary.
  • If you receive an associate degree from an accredited community college or junior college, you may enter Houghton as a junior with general education requirements considered complete, except for Biblical and Theological Studies (9 credit hours) and Transitions (1 credit hour).

Official signed transfer articulation agreements exist with most community colleges in New York State.

What Will My Class Standing Be?

Any student who has enrolled at another university as a full-time student or has completed at least 12 credits since graduating from high school is considered a transfer student at Houghton. Once you enroll at Houghton, you’ll be considered a:

  • Freshman if you transfer 0-27 credits
  • Sophomore if you transfer 28-59 credits
  • Junior if you transfer 60-89 credits
  • Senior if you transfer 90+ credits

Complete the simple online form and submit your transcripts. It’s that easy! You can apply to start at Houghton in the fall or spring semester.

Add Houghton to Your FAFSA

Get your financial aid award by updating your FAFSA using the steps below.

  • Log in at https://studentaid.gov – Apply now for FAFSA
  • Use your FSA ID and password to log in
  • Continue through the Student demographics section until the checkmark is green
  • Section 2 – School selection. Click the search by federal school code tab and input 002734
  • Click search – then click the box in front of Houghton University
  • Click continue
  • Select your housing plan
  • Everything else should remain the same from the previously filed FAFSA
  • Click sign and update FAFSA box and submit
